![]() If you're still having trouble tracking them down, I would imagine someone here might have a lead on getting an official, clean XP driver for you. Make sure to check your hardware manufacturer's site for driver downloads, they may still have them. A lot of companies don't offer them for download now, namely Intel. You are correct that finding old drivers now can certainly be a hassle. When you see the Press any key to boot from CD message, press any key to start the computer from the Windows XP CD-ROM. If you don't have a floppy drive and are having problems getting textmode AHCI drivers, this is the way I would recommend. How do I install Windows XP on a new computer To install Windows XP by starting the computer from the Windows XP CD-ROM, insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into your CD or DVD drive, and then restart the computer. Going along with above, it's usually not hard to switch between IDE and AHCI modes after installation. But I would have been done days earlier had I just installed from any of the many standard WinXP discs I already had and then fixed the drivers afterward. I don't know how much time I wasted in Nlite, PowerISO, and all the other utilities trying to get my ISO trim and perfect. ![]() Unless you ABSOLUTELY need to slipstream textmode drivers into the installation, it might be faster to just use a WinXP CD and then clean up the installation afterward. I can't say this will work on every BIOS and board, but it worked for me. ![]() You can then copy the contents of the ISO or disc directly to the root folder. ![]() However, it's not too hard to do it manually. I've tried messing with the MBR fudger and other things but I never got it working right to write my slipstreamed ISOs. While I love Rufus for all sorts of other things, it does weird things when writing an XP ISO to USB. As someone who just spent the last week trying to get fresh XP on a number of my older computers, here's what I can tell you ( some of which has already been said ). ![]()
